Events Throughout the Summer!

Eastport citizens take full advantage of warmer weather and sunny skies with an incredible array of events all summer long including art gallery shows, plays, concerts, and festivals. The highlight of the summer season is July 4th and Old Home Week. Family, friends, and visitors come to enjoy a slice of Americana served up in the form of a main street parade, eating contests, cod relay races, and more. During the week, Eastport also proudly welcomes a ship from the U.S. Navy, which is available for public tours.

Whale Watching in the Bay of Fundy

Some of the highest tides in the world, averaging 30 feet, carry billions of gallons of water in and out of the Bay of Fundy and surrounding water bodies such as Passamaquoddy Bay twice a day. Surging water stirs up nutrients that attract a variety of marine life including several species of whales such as Humpbacks, Finbacks, and Minkes. While the best views are from a whale watching cruise, whales can be seen from the Eastport Breakwater and shoreline path.

What could be better than the sun on your face, the smell of the sea air, and a freshly boiled lobster on your plate. Several places around Moose Island, upon which Eastport lies, offer up a lobster plate, lobster rolls, and lobster chowders, along with other mouth-watering seafood fare. Residents and visitors alike can also purchase their own fresh seafood here for their own kitchens and backyard cookouts. Capped off with a blueberry cobbler and the warm hospitality here makes it the perfect place to be.

The easternmost city in the United States, Eastport, Maine is 240 miles north of Portland, and only 100 miles away from Bar Harbor. The downtown area, on Moose Island is still undiscovered by the sunburnt crowds that jam Mount Desert Island every summer. Eastport is quite scenic and one of the most popular downeast destinations.
